Mary, A Jewish Woman

Mary, the virgin woman who birthed Jesus Christ was a Jewish lady who held a very valued place in the history of Christianity. Mary was a woman from Nazareth (known as a relatively poor town in the province of Galilee.) She was known to have had dark hair, skin and eyes, just as the other women around her possessed. Mary would have lived a considerably hard life filled with an endless work load that required her to to care for her family in that time period as it was known as the cultural normality.

Mother Mary's Role In The World Today

In the world today Mary has a well known title of Jesus's mother and the Virgin Mary. Catholic individuals pray to her when they are struggling and in need of support. This perception of Mary compliments the growing awareness worldwide and across many cultures of the high regard for both women and men and the significant roles played by many women in history. The increasing numbers of feminists over the years have come to support Mary's faith as they believe she is a good model of women empowerment and a strong leader amongst the female community.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death

Amen

We Fly To Thy Patronage

Under your patronage we take refuge Holy Mother of God; our petitions, do not despise in necessities, but of all dangers deliver us always glorious Virgin & Blessed.

Amen

Hail, Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Amen

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. (recite Hail Mary). Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R. Be it done unto me according to thy word. (recite Hail Mary). And the Word was made flesh. R. And dwelt among us. (Recite Hail Mary). Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ, thy son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of his resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Explanation: The angelus prayer shares a deep connection with Mary and how she was conceived by the Holy Spirit and is a significant part of the catholic religion. The devotion is practised by reciting three biblical verses narrating the mystery and alternating with the Hail Mary prayer.
